Requested Experience

We would like LP applicants to have:

  • Significant facility using NVC in their daily lives;
  • Extensive prior training such as an IIT or a residential intensive retreat with us or other trainers, plus significant practice group experience, or equivalent (click here to see a summary of our upcoming retreats);
  • At least a year of ongoing NVC practice or training (or more intensive training over at least 8 months);
  • Prior experience teaching NVC or the intention to start teaching NVC within the year of the program, or to share NVC in a non-teaching capacity (such as counseling, facilitation, mediation, and the like).

Note that some people who have less prior experience in NVC have joined our program with the recognition that they may take it for two years; each year, some participants choose to remain for a second year to deepen their learning.

LP08We particularly want to support people who are already teaching NVC in areas without certified trainers, or who are already teaching and want more support for teaching and living NVC in line with their values.

Most applicants are from the US and Canada, but we encourage people from around the world to apply. In 2010 we have participants from Denmark, Germany, Japan and Canada. If you would like to contribute to a scholarship fund to bring applicants from outside the U.S. to the Leadership Program, you can do so online by going to http://www.baynvc.org/donate_now.php and noting "LP International Fund" in the comments section of the donation form.

Requested Commitment

We request the following commitment from program participants:

  1. Intention to participate fully in all program components. The intention to participate is paramount, along with the understanding that each person will assess what is doable for her or him. Additionally, we recognize that different program components work differently for different people, and that some people may participate more in some than in others. This request meets needs for integrity, clarity, mutual support and contribution for us.
  1. Commitment to starting to share NVC with others during the program, and an intention to continue doing so for a period of at least one year following the end of the program, following CNVC guidelines for sharing NVC (see http://cnvc.org/en/sharing-nvc/guidelines-sharing-nvc for further information on these guidelines). This request meets needs for effective use of resources and integrity for us.
  1. Agreement to offer introductions, series or workshops in a way that will make them accessible to others in your community. This can be using a sliding scale, announcing that you don’t turn anyone away for lack of funds, offering scholarships, fundraising to cover your expenses, etc. Our deep desire is that NVC will be easily accessible to people wherever they are regardless of their circumstances. This request meets needs for integrity and accessibility of this work for everyone.
  1. Willingness to share some writings or taped contributions that document your inner process and, if applicable, changes in your life during the duration of the program. These contributions might be used in future publications, and/or in research about NVC (anonymously or attributed to you according to your preference). This request meets needs for support in reaching more people.
  1. Agreement to purchase recommended NVC materials, if you do not already have them, for a total of no more than $100. This request meets needs for support in learning and integration of NVC.
