Financial Contributions

About Money
At BayNVC we try to relate with money in line with our values of considering everyone’s needs. Receiving financial contributions is a strategy for meeting our needs for sustainability, as well as for contribution, appreciation, mutuality, care and choice about how we spend our time. We also want to meet the needs of the people who want to learn NVC with us – needs for sustainability, joy, contribution, choice, and care, along with others. In thinking about how much money to request, we try to create a sliding scale that is likely to accommodate most people, as well as having a commitment to include as many people as we possibly can regardless of financial means. In order for this approach to actually meet our sustainability needs, however, we assume that most people will contribute above the minimum we request; contributions at the middle range of the sliding scale are set to cover our anticipated program costs. At the same time, we would like to trust, and we request, that each person give no more than what they would enjoy giving. This last request greatly contributes to meeting our need for pleasure in receiving your gift.

While we delight in our approach to money, seeing how many needs and our vision are met, we have found it challenging to achieve financial sustainability as an organization. As such, we have chosen to articulate in some depth our needs as well as our strategies and requests for meeting those needs. This information is contained in the Financial Addendum. We ask that everyone who is applying to the LP read the addendum thoroughly before deciding how much to contribute.

If the contributions requested are beyond your means… We recognize that the amounts requested for our programs are sometimes beyond the means of people who are passionate about living and sharing NVC. The Financial Addendum answers frequently asked questions about our approach to money, payment plans, volunteer opportunities, and scholarship options. We strongly encourage you to raise funds for your expenses, and have created a list of options for how you may do that. If you believe the LP will be of benefit to yourself and the communities you are involved in, we hope you will apply and not let financial considerations deter you. We will do our best to include you in the program.

Contributions Requested for the Leadership Program
The 2012 Leadership Program has two distinct categories of contributions:

  • Tuition:
We request a $3,950-$7,950 sliding scale tuition contribution for the whole program.

  • Basic Expenses:
We hope that Basic Expenses contributions will cover room and board, facility use, supplies, staff room and board, and miscellaneous expenses for the retreats. Often they don’t, and we use some of the tuition money to cover these expenses. The contribution we request for Basic Expenses varies according to your choice of accommodation. It ranges from $1,950 for rustic, dorm-style rooms (3+ people in room) to $2,775 for single room (when available). You can find full detail of the options in the financial section of the application itself. The application can be downloaded here.

Payment Options and Timeline
We request that an application fee of $100 be submitted at the time of application, and ask that all participants submit a deposit equal to 1/4 of the full amount they intend to contribute upon receiving confirmation of participation. Subsequent contributions for Tuition and for Basic Expenses can be made in three ways: a lump sum payment, payment in 3 installments, or an extended payment plan. These options are described in the Financial Addendum.

Refunds
Our preferred practices around refunds are articulated in the Financial Addendum. We are generally happy to offer refunds minus the $100 application fee provided the program has not started yet and we are able to fill your spot.
