Buddy Relationships        Tele-support Sessions        Email Group & Wiki

“Buddy” relationships

buddiesEvery program participant will be paired with another program participant for an ongoing, mutually supportive relationship. (We will create the pairings based on participants’ preferences at the first retreat.) Buddies schedule at least a 1-hour phone conversation each week for empathy, connection, mutual support, review of individual study, and mutual exploration of leadership goals, experiences and growth.

Buddy relationships are one of the strongest components of the Leadership Program in that they offer all participants opportunities for mutual contribution, relationship building, practice with the learning, integration, empathy, healing, and deep connection.

Tele-support Sessions

During the course of the program, each participant will have access to four 30-60 minute telephone sessions with a program assistant for feedback and support. Participants have expressed deep gratitude for the depth of insight, support and empathy they have received during these calls.

Email group & Wiki

At the beginning of each year we establish an email group and wiki for that year’s LP participants. This email group serves as a forum to share challenges, offer mutual support and empathy, exchange information, discuss topics such as NVC key differentiations, explore teaching questions, and share celebrations.groupWe request that each LP participant send an email to the group at least once per quarter, even if it is just a brief check-in, to contribute to the overall connection, meaning and aliveness of the group for everyone.

The wiki provides a convenient place for participants to access the numerous journals and reference materials we include in the binder, as well as other program information.

As part of the vision statement exercise in our first retreat, I began to focus my energy on one of my life long dreams...going home to Thailand to share what I love--NVC. By the 3rd retreat, I was invited to teach 3 workshops in Bangkok, which I will lead this summer. I am filled with awe and gratitude at how this year's program supported me in moving out of deep fear about sharing NVC. Exercises such as practicing how to answer questions using key differentiations, learning when to use light empathy, deep empathy, or coaching, learning how to relate NVC with other models and how to track group energy, as well as hearing the trainers share their moment-to-moment decision making process as they facilitate groups, so help me gain confidence in leading and teaching NVC. Beyond teaching NVC, moreover, through the healing work we've done, modeling of NVC consciousness by the trainers, the awesome buddy system, and immersing in NVC with a group of people who share similar values, NVC consciousness now surrounds and blossoms within me.

Entering the LP program, I had very little NVC consciousness and almost no skills, but I was an expert at forming judgments. Despite holding rigidly to how I thought training and group process should look, no one gave up on me. Just the opposite - the whole community supported me in getting clarity about my needs and finding heart-connected ways to express myself. Thinking about it now I'm tearful, wanting to go back again and be held with that special care and unconditional love that are so vital to my well being. My memories of LP sustain me still, and I find it quite extraordinary that it's led me down the path of certification, creating the Facilitate Change program with Dian Killian, and soon I'll be on the training team with Marshall. What really blows me away is the depth of my connection with Miki and Inbal, who hold a huge community of NVC practitioners. As a trainer, will I be able to create flourishing relationships and hold so many people with such tenderness? I think not; but then I get a smile on my face as I open myself to sharing my inner beauty and imagining what is possible. I am so grateful for all that I've learned and continue to learn from the wider LP community!
